Civic integration means learning how to speak and understand the Dutch language and getting familiar with the customs, norms and values in the Netherlands. This makes it easier for you to carry out everyday activities such as running errands, going to a doctor and looking for a job. You have to pass an exam, the so called Civic Integration Exam, testing your command of the Dutch language and your basic knowledge of Dutch society. Only with the Civic Integration Diploma you comply with the legal obligations.
Do you want to know if you are required to do the Civic Integration Course? Please contact the municipality where you are registered.
(Note: The Civic Integration Act obliges most non-Dutch and non-European Union nationals living in the Netherlands to speak Dutch and have some general knowledge of the country. This is referred to as Civic Integration.)
